What is a transcoder ?

A transcoder is a dedicated processing unit that handles video transcoding in Chunkify. Think of it as a worker that processes a portion of your video file using a specific CPU configuration. Each transcoder is dedicated to your job and not shared with other users, ensuring optimal performance and consistent processing speed.

Depending on your plan you have access to these CPU configuration for each transcoder:

4vCPU	All plans
8vCPU	All plans
16vCPU	Pro and Enterprise plans only

Higher CPU configurations process videos faster but cost more per minute of compute time.

Parallel processing

Transcoders work in parallel when processing your video, delivering exceptional performance and cost efficiency even for the most CPU-intensive video encoding jobs. Instead of processing your video sequentially, multiple transcoders work on different segments simultaneously, significantly reducing total processing time.

Automatic and manual configuration

By default, Chunkify automatically determines the optimal number of transcoders and CPU configuration for your job based on your video's characteristics and your plan limits. However, you can manually configure these settings to meet your specific requirements. See the configuration page to learn more.

How many transcoders are available for my workflow?

Your plan determines how many transcoders can run concurrently across all jobs and projects in your team. Because each transcoder uses 4, 8, or 16 vCPUs, the exact number depends on the CPU configuration selected for your jobs.
